Bronchitis Contagious – here is the definition, symptoms, causes and diagnosis

Bronchitis Contagious is that true ?

Definition, Symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Bronchitis

A. Definition of Bronchitis

Bronchitis is an infection in the main respiratory tract of the lungs (bronchus), causing inflammation of the organ. It is among diseases of respiratory organ.

B. Symptoms of Bronchitis
Some symptoms of bronchitis follow:
– Coughing producing greyish yellow or green phlegm
– Pain in the throat
– Hard of breathing
– Mucous or clogged nose
– Pain or discomfort within chest
– Tiredness
– Slight fever

Bronchitis comprise two types :

First, acute bronchitis lasting for two to three weeks.  This type is the most common infection of respiratory system and often afflicts children under five.

Second, chronic bronchitis, which is bronchial infection lasting for minimal three months of a year and repeats in the next year. This bronchitis usually happens with adults of over 40 years old.

C. Causes of Bronchitis
– A bronchus is a passage of airway that conducts air into the lungs and the other way around. The bronchus walls produce mucus that bars dust and other particles likely to cause irritation to the lungs.

– Acute bronchitis arises from lung infection mostly caused by virus. The irritation and inflammation promotes the bronchus to produce more mucus or phlegm. The body reacts by pushing out the overwhelming mucus through coughing.

– The cause of chronic bronchitis generally is smoking habit.  Each inhale of smoking is potential of destroying the small hairy in the lungs, called cilia (plural of cilium).

-Cilia function as driver and sweeper out of dust, irritation, and mucus or excessive phlegm.

– After some time cigarette content may cause permanent harm in cilia and bronchus wall layer.

– That is the moment the filth cannot pass out and drain away normally.

– The phlegm and filth accumulated in the lungs make the respiratory system vulnerable to infection.

In most cases brochitis contagious can be overcome at home. The doctor will be needed only when the affection turns more severe as:

– The cough grows worse and remains after over three weeks.
– Fever sets in more than three days.
– Cough with sputum and some blood
– Suffering from heart or lung cases, caused by e.g. asthma, emphysema, or heart failure.

D. Diagnosis
of Bronchitis
The doctor will enquire about the symptoms, check the chest area with a stethoscope.

E. Treatments of Bronchitis
– Acute bronchitis may disappear in some weeks. So, no treatment is necessary.
– Before healing, take a lot of drinking and enough rest. In some cases, it may take longer to cure. Chronic bronchitis symptoms usually stay for minimal three months.
– No specific drug has been found to cure chronic bronchitis, except some used for relief.
– Evade smoking and smoking environment.

F. Complication of Bronchitis
Bronchitis complication is generally the pneumonia. The complication happens when the infection spreads deeper into the lungs. The infection causes the air pouch of the lungs filled with liquid. Around 5 percent of bronchitis ends in pneumonia. Prevent Bronchitis contagious now!

Baldness meaning – indicated by hair falling off ?

Baldness meaning (alopecia) is indicated by hair falling off happening in the scalp area or even throughout the body. Hair cell comes from ceratin protein in the hair follicle of the skin capable of growing in any human skin except hand and foot palms.

There are four phases in hair growth cycle.
1. Anagen, active hair growth for 2 to 6 years.
2. Catagen, transition phase for 2 to 3 weeks.
3. Telogen, resting phase lasting for 2 to 3 months.
4. Exogen, as hair escapes of the hair follicle.

One to another hair grows in different phases. By ratio, periodically 85-90% hair passes the anagen phase. After telogen phase, hair will fall off and the follicle  begins new hair cell growth. Normally 50 – 100 pieces of human hair may fall in a day. Baldness meaning or happens as the hair growth cycle goes abnormal due to hormonal change, heredity factor, a disease, or use of some medication.

Causes and symptoms of baldness
Baldness has types depending on the symptoms and causes as follows:

a. Androgenic alopecia
With men the first symptom begins by the end of 20th or early 30th ages.
Baldness shows up in declining hair growth level and hair scarcity around the middle of head and ends in hair growing only about the back and the sides of head. Androgenic alopecia of men may be of heredity cause and suspected excessive male hormon and of sensitive hair follicle. But this type of baldness with female its cause is not detected yet. It may be due to female hormonal  insufficence and usually affects only the middle part of head. Androgenic alopecia with female usually happens after menopause.

b. Alopecia areata
It may start with a spot of coin size and enlarge to a whole baldness (alopecia totalis). However most cases reveal hair grow again after some months. The hair growing back may have whitish colour in the brginning but later it gains its normal condition. Alopecia aerata is caused by autoimmune, being the immune system hitting back on its own.

c. Scaring alopecia
This happens through change in skin where the hair grows, turning into a scar, causing the follicle to damage and the hair stops growing. It may also happen in anomalous skin causing the scars to grow due to a.o. scleroderma, lupus, and lichen planus.

d. Anagen effluvium
It is baldness of chemotherapy and radio therapy. Anagen effluvium is also caused by serious malnutrition, pemphigus vulgaris, affection through mercury, borax, and medicinal as bismuth, levodopa, colchicine, and cyclosporine. Diseases as lupus and syphilis may also cause anagen effluvium.

The conditions effect disorders in hair growth to cause damage of hairs and fall off before normal hair growth begins. Anagen effluvium afflict hairs in scalp, face and parts of the body during anagen phase. Thus, 85-90% of hairs will fall off. This baldness is temporary one and hairs will grow again some months after treatment of the causes.

e. Telogen effluvium
A change in the hair growth cycle will effect telogen phase where 10 to 15% of hair will suffer higher growth and cause hairs to fall. It may happen owing to hormonal change and stress during pregnancy and child birth, or some diseases as infection, cancer, and liver case, some medicinal as anticoagulant and salbutanol, post operation, and diet program. Usually hairs will grow back in 6 months after hair losing ends. However, it may also extend to years.

f. Tricotilmania
It is a case where one is in the habit of plucking hairs. Therefore, the baldness takes place locally, on the spot of plucking.

g. Traction alopecia
This is baldness meaning is caused by frequent hairs pulling usually for hair styling. Styles of hair may likely cause traction alopecia, including horse tail and cornrow styles. The indication is shown in the front line of hairs looking higher than normal.

h. Other causes of baldness follow:
– Tinea capitic.
– Contraception pills consumption.
– Cosmetic products as hair coloring, gel, and hairspray.
– Hairdryer, hair iron, hair pins.
– Frequent hair cleaning and combing, especially wet hair combing.
– Overdosed A vitamin.
– Tyroid disease.
– Ferrum deficient.
– Anabolic steroid consumption for body building.

Cough caused by – a natural response of the body

Cough caused by – a natural response of the body as a protective system of the respiratory organ in case of intruding external disturbance. Act of coughing effects cleansing of phlegm or the irritant factors and matters out of the lung. Cough rarely indicates a serious disease and it will recover within three weeks. Thus, no medication is necessary. Cough drugs have neither proven effect yet. Home traditional herbal like lemon plus honey may relieve light coughing.

Cough types
Types of cough comprise phlegmatic cough and dry cough.

Phlegmatic cough is known as productive cough, because of producing phlegm or sputum in the throat.

Dry cough is called nonproductive cough because of no production of sputum.

Beginning sign of dry cough usually itchy sensation in the throat to finally produce coughing. This dry cough commonly happens on the ending phase of cold bout or when affected with irritant objects.

Phlegmatic cough is better in that the phlegm helps extract the sputum. The phlegm may arise from the throat, sinus, or the lung.

Another symptom of cough is the one of allergy, usually of dry cough type and that of flu, likely to come out in either dry or phlegmatic coughs.

Cough Caused By

Respiratory organ infection by virus is the main trigger of most coughing. Otherwise the following causes may also contribute:

Chronic disease recurring such as asthma, lung disease chronic destructive, or bronchitis chronic.

Rhinitis allergy such as allergy of pollen (hay fever).

GERD. This sickness causes the gastric acid to collect in the esophagus and incite cough.

Liquid from nose drops into the throat.

Smoking or tobacco taken in a different way.

The affliction of dust, smoke, and chemical compounds.

However rare, the factors above mentioned may still be the starting cause of long time coughing.

Diagnosis of Cough caused by

The doctor will ask for the symptoms and examine your physical condition. Medical records and family history may also be inquired in the first examination.

In case still uncertain with the causes, the doctor may recommend further tests including:

Sputum sample test to ensure bacterial infection and the antibiotic to be given in case of bacterial influence.

Chest X ray to probe into potential lung infection.

Spyrometri. Inhaling and exhaling  into a tube connected to a machine, to examine having or not having breathing problem.

Allergy test to ascertain whether the coughing is caused by an allergen such as dust bug.

Treatments of Cough caused by

Light coughing usually needs no serious treatment . Common cough medication is to relieve itchiness or to neutralize the phlegm out. However when the symptoms prolong, it may indicate serious respiratory infection.

Take doctor’s consultation if you suffer serious and prolonged coughing for immediate treatment

Light coughing may need no treatment but consult a doctor if you get cough with the following indications:

Over three week coughing due to virus infection

Tending to get more and more serious.

Having blood, hard breathing, chest pain, losing weight, fever, swelling or lump in the neck.

Infant and children coughing

Coughing with babies and children is caused by the same factors affecting adult, such as respiratory organ infection, asthma, and GERD.

Symptoms of whooping cough take serious attention especially as suffered by infants. Following symptoms are common:

Wailing sound on breath taking after coughing

Repetitive and intent coughing, producing thick phlegm.

Tired and reddish face after constant coughing..

Vomiting.

Other than whooping cough, bronchiolitis and croup also happen with the infants and children.

Bronchiolitis is an infection in the respiratory tract bottom part, found with babies and children under two.

Croup is virus infection inflicting the voice box or trachea, common with babies and children.
